Bela M. Biro
Bela Biro is a strategic advisor to Coopersmith Law + Strategy on value-based care, population health, behavioral health, and health care leadership and innovation.
Bela has served in senior leadership at major medical systems, multi-specialty clinics, and health plans. He brings a fervent population health approach to improving health outcomes and quality at lower cost.
Before joining CLS, Bela Biro was at Swedish Health Services, the largest health care system in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, in charge of Accountable Care Services, launching initiatives for value-based care and population health including new programs for ambulatory behavioral health integrated with primary care, post-acute care for Medicare beneficiaries following inpatient stays, and improved quality and lower cost through shared savings, such as Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) linking payments for the multiple services beneficiaries received during an episode of care, Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), and value-based arrangements with commercial health plans.
Bela is the former President at Molina Healthcare of Washington, where he led strategy and oversaw various initiatives, including membership growth through Medicaid expansion and the health benefit exchange, as well as best-in-class improvements in utilization management. He also served as the Executive Director for Physicians Care Network, a managed care company owned by The Polyclinic. He earlier served in Chief Financial Officer roles with organizations including The Polyclinic, First Choice Health Network, and a local Blue Shield health plan.
Bela is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). He earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton. He completed the Executive Development Program (EDP) at The Michael G. Foster School of Business at the University of Washington in 2009. Bela pursues a variety of personal interests including culinary arts, writing, travel, jazz and blues bass guitar, observational astronomy, and timepiece repair and restoration.
