Jeffrey Coopersmith

Jeffrey Coopersmith is founder of Coopersmith Law + Strategy, where he leads a team of diverse talents and backgrounds devoted to solving some of the biggest challenges we face in health care, technology, and climate change.

For multi-laterals, Jeffrey’s work includes helping develop programs that deliver real impact, enhancing relationships with the U.S. government and U.S. constituencies, and improving engagement with the private sector. Jeffrey has served as a principal advisor to candidates seeking to become UN Secretary General and the Director of UN Women.

For private sector clients, Jeffrey helps navigate the opportunities and barriers in highly-regulated, highly-fragmented, highly-scrutinized sectors. Companies with large market caps and high margins depend on his understanding of industry, policy, politics, and the law.

Jeffrey is an expert in digital transformation. When COVID-19 abruptly destroyed the business model of the U.S. health care delivery system, Jeffrey and his team worked with tech companies and major medical systems to adjust to virtual delivery of care, integrating clinical and business operations to increase access, improve outcomes, lower costs, and enhance the patient and provider experience.

In 2021, Jeffrey struck a landmark, first-in-the-nation deal with the health insurance industry establishing a new legal and business model for one of the U.S.’s largest COVID testing providers.

In another example of pathbreaking work, Jeffrey and his team preserved one of the country’s biggest, best-regarded training programs for physicians of color who provide care to underserved patient populations, improving equity for future generations of patients and communities.

Among international successes, Jeffrey resolved a seemingly intractable dispute where a European multinational’s crown-jewel asset was improperly seized in an Asian country and used by an insurgency to fund violence and banditry against civilians. He also advises companies on how to form or deepen public-private sector partnerships that create alignment and genuine collaboration to address systems issues that no one company or sector could ever solve alone.

Jeffrey earned his B.A. in Political Science from Princeton University and his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School. His background is in law, working for Hon. Charles R. Richey of the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia; policy, as domestic policy advisor to Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-NY); and regulation, as Chief Counsel and Director of Enforcement for the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner.
